Adult Provision

Griffin Lodge is an adult care service specifically for people who are deaf and/or autistic with additional complex needs, often presenting with behaviours that challenge.

Griffin Lodge was opened in 1998 as the result of a partnership between Guinness Northern Counties Housing Association and Seashell Trust. It provides a safe environment for residents to receive specific support and care packages, by tailoring services to meet very individual needs, and to maximise their potential for development through access to learning and equality of opportunity.

It is set in its own extensive grounds at the end of a short access road and is close to all local amenities.

Griffin Lodge achieved Investors in People Award in 2005, which acknowledges our commitment to providing well-trained, experienced and highly motivated staff.

Griffin Lodge’s most recent CSCI inspection report, dated May 2007, made a judgement that overall our services provide excellent outcomes for the residents.

Copies of the inspection report can be downloaded here.  Alternatively go to the Better Caring website for more details.

Griffin Lodge’s ethos is that each resident has the right as an individual to take a full and vital part in the community in which they live; that everyone, regardless of their disability, has the right to live in their community with people they know and like, supported by staff who like, respect and know them well. The residents also have the right to follow their religious and cultural beliefs.

A parent recently commented that:

"Griffin Lodge has the staff of the right calibre, expertise and attitude to make the atmosphere more homely and less institutionalised for all the residents, and so improving the quality of their lives"
