Courses at Royal College Manchester

All students follow a personalised course based on their learning needs and preferences and this is delivered across the college and residential setting.

Courses have core elements including functional skills and life skills

Functional skills is embedded in all subjects,  students learn communication, literacy and numeracy skills and how to apply them to their daily lives. Students at the college find ICT an essential part of their learning; it effectively supports their communication within a range of contexts at college, at home and within the wider community. ICT enables students to review their learning, to recognise their achievements and share targets.

Life Skills - learners develop daily living skills within the college and in residence including self care and home management skills, Citizenship, Travel Skills. There is a strong Sexuality and Relationships Education programme within Personal Health and Social Education,

Specialist Subject Strands

Vocational Studies

At the college we give students opportunities to try a range of occupational options, including Small Animal Management, Catering, Land based Skills, Horticulture, Mini Business Enterprise, Personal Presentation Skills , Cycle Maintenance, Café enterprise.

Where students show an interest in an area, a supported work experience placement is established and the college has excellent relationships with local businesses, who support to learners. We use Person Centred Planning to support the learners to shape their course and record preferences and aspirations.

Creative Studies

Some students have skills and interests in creative studies. At Royal College we provide opportunities to develop these further through the creative studies programme. Students can follow Art, Drama, Media Studies or Music, Photography

Sport

At Royal College we have a superb range of inclusive sports resources as well as links with local community based services.  Students can choose to follow sports subjects; athletics, swimming, fitness, team sports, cycling, yoga, hiking, orienteering, climbing.
