The number of Multi-Sensory Impaired (MSI)/deafblind children and young people in the UK is increasing. There are approximately 4000 children and young people aged 0‐19 years with MSI (Emerson & Robertson 2010), a figure expected to rise to 5000 by 2030. Furthermore, MSI in children and young people is believed to be underreported, as this impairment is often missed in those with complex needs or profound and multiple learning disabilities. Multi-sensory impaired children experience significant and wide ranging challenges in communication, access to information (learning) and mobility.

The ‘Listen to Me’ conference will provide practical strategies for supporting young people with MSI.  This is an area where specialist, personalised approaches to teaching, learning and developing independence are of vital importance. Our programme will explore the latest research and thinking in key areas including communicating effectively, managing behavioural issues and self-regulation. The event is designed to equip you with innovative ideas and methods that can be directly applied to the workplace.

We’ll hear from a number of expert professionals with substantial experience of working in the field of MSI. Our programme of workshops will offer plenty of opportunities for delegates to apply what they have learned and discuss and debate with speakers and fellow attendees.  ‘Listen to Me’ aims to provide delegates with a range of new knowledge and ideas to draw on in their work supporting multi-sensory impaired children and young people.
