Charitable Couple Celebrate 60 Years Together

A local couple made their Diamond Wedding anniversary celebrationAlf and Jean Weall Cut Their Diamond Wedding Cakes extra special by throwing a garden party for family and friends and asking them to make a donation to Seashell Trust, instead of buying presents.

Alf (82) and Jean (79) Weall from Cheadle Hulme, raised £140 for the charity, which they have been supporting since 1969, thanks to the kindness of their guests.

The couple first got involved with Seashell Trust back when it was known as The Royal School For the Deaf, through Alf’s work with Gatley and District Rotary Club and are now regular volunteers, helping to distribute collection tins to shops in the local area.

Alf says ‘We enjoy our work with Seashell Trust and feel like we are actually making a difference to people’s lives locally. We have a healthy family and over the years have seen people less fortunate than us. Just because we don’t have the right skills to care for and educate the students directly, doesn’t mean we can’t have a huge impact on their lives and I’d urge anyone in the local area who might be able to spare a few hours to volunteer their time, as it’s incredibly rewarding and will help change young people’s lives and futures.’

Jean adds, ‘The children and young people at Seashell Trust have some of the most complex needs and disabilities and we have felt privileged to see the developments there over the years and the amazing things they do for the students.

‘We had a wonderful party with our family and friends and are so grateful to them all for helping us support this wonderful cause that is so close to our hearts. I’d encourage anyone else to do something similar as it really made our celebration more meaningful. Our guests loved it too as they didn’t have to worry about what to buy us!’
