Seashell Trust Encourages Local Youngsters To Try Something Different in 2012
CADS, the local award-winning Children’s Abled and Disabled Sport programme run by Seashell Trust, which is fully inclusive for those of all abilities, has launched two new clubs to challenge youngsters to take up a new sport this year.
The Climbing Club has proved an instant hit with record sign-ups in it’s first week. This increasingly popular sport can be enjoyed safely by young people of all abilities on the fantastic climbing wall at the Seashell Trust campus.
CADS has also started a fully-inclusive weekly Yoga Club. Yoga is great for children as it helps concentration and relaxation plus, unlike team sports, it allows youngsters to set their own goals and is particularly beneficial to children with autism.
Gemma Castle, Senior Development Officer for CADS said ‘We wanted to set up some new clubs that were a little bit different from the usual sports activities on offer in our area. It’s great for children to be able to try new things and obviously all our clubs are suitable for both abled and disabled youngsters.’
Gemma continues ‘It’s amazing how easy it is to take up climbing on the wall with very limited mobility and we already have some wheelchair users enjoying our yoga class alongside able-bodied youngsters.’
The CADS Climbing Club takes place every Monday during term-time from 6pm – 7pm for ages five to 16. The Yoga Club is on Thursdays from 4pm – 5pm, ages five to 16. Both are run on the Seashell Trust campus in Cheadle Hulme.
