Starting in 1985 in her late teens, Lynne Thompson has taken on many roles during her time at Seashell – from House Parent, to Senior Learning Assistant, to Family Link Worker, to now PBS Lead.

As a House Parent, Lynne worked in the same buildings that are now used by support staff, back when they used to be residential houses.

“Where the Moulding Foundation Building is, there used to be ‘The Quad’ where residential students lived,” said Lynne. “Many staff even lived on-site in the houses by reception.”

Lynne’s family lived just down the road, and her sister Christine attended Seashell from two-and-half years old until she was seven, back when we were Royal School for the Deaf.

“Seashell was always a part of my life growing up,” said Lynne. “My parents were on the ‘Friends of Royal School for the Deaf’ committee, and they always helped out and supported. My daughters even worked as Teaching Assistants across School and College.”

At the time Lynne applied for a job, there was a long waiting list for the role. “Back then it was so different. You stayed loyal to the job you had and staff worked there for decades, it’s just how it was.”

“Seashell is the place to be. I’m so passionate about it and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”

Lynne has seen Seashell go through massive changes, and has played a huge part in shaping the organisation as we know it today. One thing that has stayed consistent throughout the years is Lynne’s outstanding dedication, warmth, care and passion in everything she does.

‘Lynne Thompson and her magic wand’ have been supporting staff teams throughout the campus for four decades, all with one aim at heart – making a difference to the lives of the children and young people at Seashell.

Lynne’s husband, parents and sisters joined us for a surprise celebration organised by the PBS team in the Boardroom, where staff from across Seashell came to wish Lynne congratulations and present her with £400 in vouchers.

“Thank you to my team Andy, Brad, Caroline and Danielle for organising the surprise – I think I’ll spend the vouchers on myself this time, as previously I’ve used them to buy gifts for friends and family!”

Congratulations Lynne – we’re lucky to have such a dedicated and wonderful staff member with us. You’re truly part of the furniture!
