Arthur's Story

Although staff at his old school were really supportive of Arthur’s behaviours and difficulties, they weren’t able to meet his needs.

As his mum and dad explain in the video below, Arthur has been diagnosed with ASD, has complex learning disabilities and is largely non-verbal. This meant he was quite isolated and very overwhelmed and frustrated in a regular school setting. His anxiety levels then started reaching a point where he was self-harming and kicking out at other children.

His mum Neryssa said: “There [came a point] where no local authority school could meet [his] needs.

“When I was first shown a classroom at Seashell I nearly burst into tears because I just thought ‘this is what he needs’.

“The most important thing for us was the way [Seashell] staff related to Arthur.”

As soon as Arthur walked into a Seashell classroom he felt at home. Thanks to our staff working with Arthur, he now has a much brighter future. He is mentally stimulated, has been learning life skills like cooking and personal hygiene skills. And a real turning point for his parents was when “progressing towards paid employment” was included on his Education, Health and Care Plan.

We’re so grateful Arthur’s future is bright thanks to our caring staff.
