Every young person should have the opportunity for their ear health to be checked.

In this video, created in collaboration with Seashell, Hearing Health Collective and Co-Production Collective you can learn how ear checks will be performed in special residential schools.

Seashell were involved in the The Ear Checks Programme, which was part of a national agenda where NHS England committed to close inequality gaps for children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. As a disability specialist with residential provision, we worked with them to improve assessments in residential special schools, where students may be unable to express when they experience ear pain or discomfort and may require additional support to feel comfortable during these checks.

The pilot was a great success, and Co-Production Collective were awarded Co-Production Initiative of the Year at the Nasen awards, recognising “individuals and organisations for their outstanding work to ensure that children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and learning differences reach their full potential”.

We are very proud of this collaboration, ensuring a more supportive and accessible way to check young people’s ear health.
