We’ve been celebrating all things spooky this week, including our Halloween Theme Day in Royal School Manchester. We were delighted to see so many students and members of staff going all-out with their costumes, including one of our classes who dressed up as the Addams Family!

We were also impressed to see students who did their own makeup, including Jacob, who created a spooky red design using an eyeshadow palette and a brush.

In our life skills room, students could decorate their own candy apples, choosing their preferred flavours of melted chocolate and adding edible decorations to give it that extra bit of sparkle. Leo was very meticulous in his design, adding sprinkles and sugar ghosts with precision.

Outside in our forest school area, we created a pumpkin patch where students could choose their perfect pumpkin to either decorate outside with paint or later in the classroom.
Throughout the day, students could also enjoy sensory messy play with chia seeds and slime, spooky colouring sheets, and our interactive sensory rooms with haunted music and light displays. To end the day, students and staff had a boogie in the Margaret Mason Hall at our Halloween Disco. Watch the video below to see more.
After education is finished for the day, our residential students benefit from an extended curriculum, where they can continually learn new skills, socialise, and take part in various activities.
Using our College hall, children and young adult residential students enjoyed a pumpkin carving session to create some terrifying designs, using pumpkins kindly donated by Sainsbury’s and Morrisons. Logan enjoyed the sensory aspect of the pumpkin’s insides, using his hands to remove all the seeds before covering his pumpkin in green paint.

On Thursday, we saw the return of the highly-anticipated Spooky Trail. The path behind College was transformed into an eerie wonderland adorned with lights, decorations, pumpkins, and even a Hogwarts tunnel for our budding witches and wizards.
Those who dared to enter received a bag from our resident witch to collect their treats in along the way, as they braved the many spooky sensory stations. Our staff team truly went above and beyond to make the trail as showstopping as ever, with details just about everywhere you looked.
Buddy even sported a creepy cape to get in on the spooky spirit. Watch the video below to see all the fun.
