Residential care for special needs adults and children
At Seashell, we have 17 home-from-home residential homes for young adults and children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our residential homes offer some of the UK’s best facilities in terms of care.
Seashell offers a highly personalised and integrated package of care for children and young people who require residential care in partnership with our school, college, therapy and nursing services. We also have a boarding school package for students with complex learning disabilities that works alongside our residential care, providing short breaks for children, young adults and their families who need some respite.
Why use Seashell’s residential homes?
At Seashell, we have a fully-trained professional care team of residential support workers that provide day-to-day support within our residential homes. The wellbeing of the children in our care is the number one priority, and all of our professionals are highly qualified and well equipped to deal with all types of care.
Here are some of the key benefits we deliver as part of our residential care:
- Thoughtful design
- Flexible respite care
- Personalised care services
- Maximise learning and development
- Promote independent living
- Recreational activities
Thoughtful design
All Seashell homes accommodate a maximum of four children or young adults and have been thoughtfully designed to offer a highly specialised environment. Each home is fully adapted to provide the best educational and residential care for individuals with SEND, while some of them offer a sensory room that provides a relaxing environment and stimulation through learning and play.
Flexible respite care
Seashell residential care for autistic adults and children provides weekly and termly boarding as well as 52-week placements in our homes. The educational and residential care we provide for students is highly flexible, while our bespoke packages can be tailored to individual children.
Personalised care services
Our bespoke care packages are tailored to each individual and are outlined within a personalised care plan. Every occupant of our homes has their own bedroom with en-suite bathroom, which we work together to decorate and personalise to help them feel more comfortable.
Maximise learning and development
The individuals that live in our residential homes are offered a safe and supportive care living space that enables growth and development. The care each individual receives at Seashell helps to maximise their learning and developmental potential, as the same specialist teams work with each child in their home. This provides a consistent and cohesive approach to helping them achieve their personal goals.
Promote independent living
At Seashell, children and young people are encouraged to exercise choice and control by choosing what they would like to eat, deciding which recreational activity they’d like to take part in, and more. We help to support the development of independent living skills wherever we can.
Recreational activities
All children and young adults placed with Seashell have the opportunity to access a full range of recreational activities. These include arts and crafts, music, cooking, fabulous facilities for swimming, cycling, trampolining, an outside gym, a play area and a fully inclusive indoor fitness suite. Our team of fully-qualified support workers are hands-on throughout each activity.
Day in the life of a support worker
Our residential homes for special needs young adults and children consist of highly qualified professionals called residential support workers. A day in the life of one of our residential workers is a busy and challenging one, but is extremely rewarding. Each day starts with logging onto the system to check on the rota where they’ll be based within the house on that day. This can include a hands-on role or a general role within the home.
If one of our support workers is hands-on, they will support the young adult they’re working with. This type of work involves engaging in activities with the individual, completing their daily recordings and providing complete care throughout the day.
If not in a hands-on role, residential support workers spend their day ensuring the house is running smoothly and safel., This may include the daily recording of incidents and activities, updating support plans, making sure risk assessments are completed, ensuring the log book is up to date, and much more.
