Jack's story

After realising that college wasn’t quite for me, I started at Seashell when I was 17 years old as a Business Administration Apprentice. A family member told me about the position and after doing my research about Seashell, I realised that it would be the perfect place to develop my skills, knowledge and also grow as a person.

When I first started my apprenticeship I was quiet, shy and had little confidence. As I progressed, I gained confidence and turned traits into strengths with the help of my colleagues at Seashell.

After working hard for two years and completing my Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship, I was rewarded with a permanent contract within the organisation. Alongside this, I have gained a qualification in British Sign Language Level 1, completed Seashell’s in-house management development programme, Ready, Steady, Manage, and am on course to complete my Level 3 Team Leader qualification accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.

My favourite moment as an apprentice at Seashell was presenting my project at the Ready, Steady, Manage closing event, speaking in front of Seashell’s Chief Executive, Jolanta McCall, Governors, Directors and Heads of Departments. It was here I was able to showcase just how far I had progressed since starting the apprenticeship.

For someone starting out as an apprentice, I would recommend taking as many opportunities as possible in order to help you develop, especially the ones that take you out of your comfort zone. These are the ones you will learn the most from.
