Seashell Trust provides care and education for children and young people with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairments, communication disorders, and autism.
We are looking for a committed Course Manager to join our brand-new, state-of-the-art specialist college, supporting students aged 19–25 to live their best lives. You will lead one of our four learning pathways and play a key role in shaping high-quality learning experiences for students with complex needs, while empowering and developing a dedicated teaching and support team.
As a Course Manager, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role in delivering an exceptional curriculum that enables every young person to thrive.
You will:
- Develop and oversee a high-quality, evidence-informed curriculum for learners with SEND.
- Ensure excellent teaching practice, consistent standards, and impactful learning experiences.
- Coach and mentor teachers, promoting innovative and inclusive approaches including multisensory learning and assistive technology.
- Ensure curriculum aligns with the SEND Code of Practice, Ofsted frameworks, and Preparing for Adulthood principles.
- Manage timetabling, resourcing, and day-to-day pathway delivery.
- Oversee learner assessment, induction, transitions and annual review cycles.
- Monitor attendance, retention, progress and achievement to secure strong outcomes.
- Manage the departmental budget.
- Lead on quality assurance including observations, learning walks, and internal audits.
- Analyse performance data to inform improvement plans.
- Contribute to the college’s Self‑Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Work closely with the Safeguarding team to ensure effective reporting, intervention and recording.
- Promote safeguarding themes and preventative education within the curriculum.
- Participate in multi-agency work, fact-finding investigations and risk assessments.
- Chair EHCP Annual Reviews and coordinate co‑production with families and professionals.
- Ensure staff understand learner needs and support plans.
- Build strong partnerships with therapy, social care, health and local authority teams.
- Line-manage teachers and support staff through supervision, appraisal and performance management.
- Promote staff wellbeing and build a collaborative, inclusive culture.
- Support recruitment, CPD planning and team development.
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or Post‑16 teaching qualification.
- Experience in specialist FE or SEND school/college settings.
- Strong knowledge of statutory SEND frameworks and safeguarding guidance.
- Proven leadership, coaching and team‑development skills.
- A successful teaching track record with excellent differentiation and classroom management.
Desirable:
- Leadership, SEND, Autism or Careers qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience managing larger teams, data analysis, audits or inspections.
- Familiarity with EHCPs, multi-agency working, risk assessments and digital systems.
