About Royal College Manchester at Seashell
Royal College Manchester at Seashell is an independent specialist day and/residential college for post 16 students with low incidence high needs including severe learning difficulties, sensory impairment and autism. All students at the college use alternative and augmentative communication systems, the majority are non-verbal communicators, whilst others use these systems to supplement their spoken communication.
Our highly- skilled team of teaching and support staff include specialist teachers, (autism, hearing impairment and multisensory impairment), intervenors and autism trained LSAs. They work closely with a full team of therapists and our residential care services to deliver high quality personalised learning and support based on the needs and preferences of the student.
Seashell is one of only a few charities in the Northwest focussing on enhancing the lives of young people with very complex needs. This sets apart the college from other further education providers as we deliver high quality education and care to meet needs of young people who need highly specialist expertise and resources.
We have already invested significantly in a world class campus development with world class residential homes and a recently opened exceptional special school with excellent facilities and will continue to do so over the next decade and beyond. We are now embarking on the next phase of our transformation and are preparing to build a brand new college building, which will also be home to a community café and inclusive sports facilities and we also have plans strengthen services to support progression from education to positive destinations.

The Deputy Principal reports to the College Principal and plays a major role in:
- Formulating the aims and objectives of the college in line with Seashell’s vision
- Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives
- Managing staff and resources to that end
- Monitoring progress towards the achievement of the college’s aims and objectives
- Driving collaboration with services across Seashell to deliver design and deliver integrated services to young people
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of Seashell
Has significant experience in:
- Demonstrating best practice in delivery of teaching to students with a range of special needs
- Involvement in college self-assessment and development planning
- Raising standards and monitoring success in a college or specialist setting
- Working with multi-disciplinary teams for the benefit of students
- Management of whole college projects
- Teaching young people with SEND
- Working with parents and Governors or Trustees
- Leading and managing staff
- Evidence of taking an active part in monitoring/evaluation of teaching and learning
- Experience of effective and impactful leadership within an education provision.
- Evidence of effective financial planning or budgeting efficient use of resources and obtaining best value for money.
- A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all students and promoting the ethos and values of Seashell
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Commitment to safeguarding and equality, ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways that exploit the position.
