Originally founded in 1823, Seashell Trust is a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential care homes, outreach, health and family services all based on one campus site. We provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment, communication disorders and autism.

We are recruiting a Physiotherapy Technical Instructor to support across the whole organisation. The Physiotherapy Technical Instructor will work with our Physiotherapists in the planning, delivery and assessment of a range of physical therapies and intervention plans to support the needs of our children and young adults.
We are recruiting this position on a permanent part-time basis (30 hours per week/ 52 weeks per year) but are happy to discuss more flexible working options if 52 weeks is not suitable. (However we are looking for someone who can commit to working 30 hours per week).
Key responsibilities:
- To plan and implement physiotherapy interventions, and monitor and evaluate outcomes – this will include hydrotherapy and rebound sessions across a varied caseload
- Use the principles and practices of physiotherapy to treat complex conditions to optimise students’ physical needs and wellbeing
- Contribute to multidisciplinary teamwork by providing a physiotherapy perspective of the child/ young adult
- Work closely with the Physiotherapist to supply information that will contribute to the MDT assessment process, forming long term goal setting, ongoing formative assessment, progress review, strategies and levels of support for students
- Manage your own work and caseload in line with service/clinical priorities
- Adherence to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and Health Professionals Council of ethics and standards
- Demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of specialist equipment to parents/carers, educational staff and therapy colleagues
- Assist the Physiotherapist with the design of therapy programmes and maintain up to date and accurate clinical records
- Supervise and monitor Therapy Assistants as required to undertake their day to day duties
About you…
- Willingness to be a registered associate of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists if not already
- Experience of working alongside a Physiotherapist with children and/or young people with profound and complex learning disabilities and physical disabilities, and delivering therapeutic programmes – preferably in an education environment
- Prior experience working as an advanced support assistant or equivalent level in a similar setting
- Completion of rebound training and relevant hydrotherapy training is highly desirable
- Completion of postural management training is also preferred
- GCSE grade 4/C or above or level 2 qualification in English and Maths
- Competent IT skills with evidence to support this
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
In addition, you will regularly be required to move and handle service users who have a range of physical disabilities in a variety of settings including classrooms, residential units, swimming pool, work placements and some restricted places. You must therefore be able to undertake tasks involving physically active sessions and be able to support service users with behaviours of distress.
