About Seashell Trust
Here at Seashell, we provide care and education for children and young people with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairments and communication disorders, and autism. Originally founded in 1823, we are a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential homes, outreach health and family services. The position of SEN Activity Instructor / Swimming Instructor is based within our Active team and will play an integral role in providing fully inclusive and accessible physical activities for children and young people with a wide variety of disabilities and complex needs.
We are dedicated to helping children and young people live their best lives and provide excellent facilities including a newly built swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool which opened in February 2023. This wonderful resource can also be turned into a sensory room with light projectors and sound system to meet the needs of all our children.
As the Activity Instructor you can expect to…
· Work as part of a team to provide fully inclusive and accessible swimming and physical activity opportunities for children and young adults with a wide variety of disabilities and complex needs
· Safely operate the pool and leisure facilities as part of a wider team and ensure the safety of all users
· Deliver swimming and physical activity sessions to people of all ages with disabilities and health conditions
· Work as part of a team to ensure the full operation of aquatics, sports and physical activities including swimming sessions, cycling and fitness.
· Actively promote healthy lifestyles to Seashell Trust students, residents, staff and users from the local community
Activity Instructor Qualifications and Experience
- English & Maths GCSE Grade 4 or above (formally Grade C or above) or completion of functional skills English & Maths.
- Essential Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification
- RLSS National Pool Lifeguard and/or National Swim Teacher Rescue qualifications are highly desirable (or we would look for a willingness to complete upon starting in post).
- Experience of delivering aquatics activity to children, young people and adults with a disability and/or complex needs.
- Knowledge of delivery requirements and practices for children, young people, and adults with varying and complex needs.
- Experience of delivering swimming lessons to all ages and abilities.
- Experience of teaching swim classes in groups and 1:1 sessions.
