A “radical overhaul” of Special Education Needs (SEND) system is needed, according to a June 2023 report from the Children’s Commissioners. Through this report they expressed concerns about the lack of support for children with special educational needs.

40% of families of children with SEND say they can’t access the support they need. This urgently needs to change as without the right support in both care and education many of the most severely disabled children are falling through the gaps.

These children have the potential to communicate, be independent, and go onto employment in areas they are passionate about. But instead, this becomes a distant dream, as families must put all their effort into getting their child’s basic needs met.
