Janet Brown from our Seashell Learning and Development team ventured out onto the paths and lanes around Bramhall at Easter with her family to take part in a cycling event organised by our charity partners at Rode Cycle Shop and Kona Coffee.

In glorious spring sunshine the route started at RODE in Bramhall Precinct, taking in Bramhall Village, Bramhall Park, the library, golf clubs and post office with cunning questions testing local knowledge and map skills.

They travelled round 17 points designed to work up a thirst for a coffee at the finish, but not before it had been earned by completing all the tricky questions. Did you know that Bramhall Park has a turtle called Bert that lives in the main pond?

After the obligatory photo in the stocks it was back to the shop to show off  their Playdoh bike acquired en-route, whist enjoying a coffee at Kona.

The cycle reminded all who took part how important the work of Seashell is to give young people the opportunity to develop skills and independence.

The event was great fun but also competitive! Janet and family were delighted to finish 2nd and win a pair of wonderful cycle shoes kindly donated by Rode.

Kieran Luxton, Manager of Kona and Rode, said ‘we loved hosting the treasure hunt across the Easter break to raise money for Seashell. We wanted to offer the local community and families something fun and engaging that got them outside and on their bikes after what has been a challenging year for everyone. We had over 32 families take part, all totally COVID safe, which was an absolute joy.

Being new to the community of Bramhall we are so thankful for not only support for us here at Kona & RODE but also the overwhelming support and love for Seashell. We managed to raise over £600 and hope to bring more events and raise even more money for the amazing work being done at Seashell’.

Dominic Tinner, Head of Fundraising, said ‘we are so grateful to Janet and her family and everyone who took part in this great community event. We’ve had fabulous feedback from all participants saying how much they enjoyed it and how much they learnt about Seashell’s work. Thanks so much to Drew, Kieran and the whole team at Rode and Kona for all their work in making this a success’.
