On Sunday 19 September over 100 riders took place in the Brewin Dolphin Seashell Sportive. The annual event raises much-need funding to support the Stockport charity that provides for some of the country’s most profoundly disabled children and young people.

Brewin Dolphin, one of the UK’s leading wealth management firms, signed up as the title sponsor of the 2021 event.

Now in its seventh year, after a hiatus due to the pandemic, the event had a choice of four routes – an entry level 50km short route for families and beginners, a 75km medium route, a more challenging 100km of climbing and a lung-busting 170km. The ride took in the very best scenery Cheshire, the Peak District and Staffordshire have to offer.

Volunteers supported the event helping set up in the early hours of Sunday, running each of the five feeding stations and giving the riders a rousing welcome on their return after several hours on the road.

The £30 – £35 entry fee paid by each rider was donated directly donated to the charity, with funds going towards helping the life changing work of the organisation, who provide care and education to children and young people with severe learning disabilities and additional communication needs.

Seashell Head of Fundraising, Dominic Tinner, said: “We were disappointed to have to cancel our 2020 sportive and so were delighted that riders turned up in numbers for this year’s ride.  Fundraising has been decimated by the pandemic.

“Everyone was in high spirits and were clearly pleased to be able to the event as the end of the cycling sportive season approaches.

“We are extremely grateful to our sponsors, the volunteers and of course all those who chose to rider for Seashell.  Chapeau to them all.”

Title sponsors Brewin Dolphin were joined by Pinarello UK, Ultimate Corporate Communications, Lockton and Eversheds Sutherland. Additionally Pickerings Hire, MyProtein, ProBikeKit and HipLok supported the day.
