Learning Support Assistant Susie is taking on an epic 100km Tour De Manc challenge in support of Seashell.
With four different routes to choose from, experienced athlete Susie is challenging herself to complete the second longest, cycling a hilly route of 100km (62 miles). As a Tour De Manc first-timer, Susie wanted to add a new challenge to her impressive experiences, which include taking part in the Manchester Marathon and a half Iron Man – all this year!
“I first heard about the event at Seashell Central, and one of my other Seashell colleagues had taken part in the past and recommended it,” said Susie.
Susie joined Seashell in September 2024 and is really enjoying her role, even recently completing her Climbing Assistant Training.
“I’m always looking for adventures to take part in for a good cause.”
Seashell is a really special place, and I feel quite privileged to work with the amazing young people here.”
Sport is a huge part of Susie’s life and is pivotal in supporting her mental wellbeing. “I enjoy supporting students to use facilities like the climbing wall or bike track, encouraging them to be active and making those activities accessible.”
Susie is feeling more excited than nervous about taking on the challenge, which she will be doing alongside her husband. “I’m not putting any pressure on myself, I just want to do it and enjoy the experience.”
“Challenges like these aren’t as daunting as you might think – there’s chances to rest, chat with people, and there’s food and drink stops, it’s like a rolling picnic!”
