Mairead joined the School Governing Board in March 2026 and is the Lead Nurse at Seashell, bringing more than two decades of diverse nursing experience to her role.
Qualifying as a nurse in 2004, she began her career in general surgery before becoming a colorectal specialist nurse. Her passion for both nursing and travel then led her to work internationally, including roles in Saudi Arabia within a surgical HDU, and later in Nepal, where she undertook voluntary work providing care in remote mountain clinics. She continued her overseas work in the UAE, spending four years in long term ICU.
After returning to the UK, Mairead developed a strong interest in complex care and service management. She has worked extensively to ensure that individuals with the most complex health and SEND needs can access high quality, person centred healthcare. Her work includes developing specialist training programmes for families and healthcare support workers, enabling children and adults to safely receive care within their own homes, supporting both wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes.
At Seashell, Mairead is passionate about enabling children and young adults with complex health needs to access and thrive in education. She works closely with the nursing team, therapy colleagues, education staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that holistic, safe and responsive healthcare supports every learner’s potential.
Outside of work, Mairead is a busy mum of three and shares her home with a dog and a cat. Her weekends are often spent supporting her children at football matches, swimming sessions and horse riding lessons, or enjoying long walks with her beloved cockapoo, Vinnie.
