Richard joined the board in April 2025.

A native of South Wales, Richard studied law at Aberystwyth University and the College of Law, Chester. He qualified as a solicitor in 1994. Between 1992-1998, Richard trained and worked at Cardiff law firm Edwards Geldard, specialising in planning, environmental and public law, working on projects including the regeneration of Cardiff Bay, the Millennium Stadium, and the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

In 1998 Richard moved to Manchester, where he joined global law firm Eversheds. He spent over 26 years at Eversheds, with 21 years as Partner heading their Manchester planning team. During this time, he advised clients on major planning and regeneration schemes in London and across the UK, including advising on the compulsory purchase orders needed for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the de-commissioning of Trawsfynydd nuclear power station. He also advised on numerous major regeneration and housing schemes across the North West, including Ancoats Urban Village and Salford Central. Richard advised Seashell on their successful planning appeal public inquiry for the campus Transformation Project.

As an equity partner at Eversheds, Richard was responsible for team management and supervision, recruitment and interviewing prospective partner candidates for the business, marketing and business development, preparing tenders and pitches to prospective clients, the team’s financial performance, and managing client relationships. He and his team were top ranked for the North West in the legal directories for over 20 consecutive years. At the end of April 2025, Richard left Eversheds Sutherland for a change in career.

Richard is now a strategic director at Manchester-based planning consultancy Asteer Planning, where he advises on all planning and environmental aspects of complex planning applications for housing, commercial and regeneration schemes.

Richard and his family live in Altrincham, where he maintains his interests in music, cycling, reading, and supporting Liverpool FC.
