How to raise money for a children’s charity?

The fundraising team here at Seashell have put together your go-to guide for charity fundraising ideas. We’ve compiled a full list of ideas that you can whip out whenever you’re looking to raise some funds!

Fun runs and sponsored walks

A popular choice for money; put on your running shoes and get ready to sweat for a great cause! Participating in fun runs or sponsored walks is a fabulous way to raise money whilst also getting a cheeky bit of exercise in. Encourage family, friends, and work colleagues to sponsor you and you’ll be on your way to raising some funds for your given charity.

Here at Seashell, we frequently hold a whole range of sponsored walks and run funs so feel free to get in touch with us! We’ll happily help you with some exercise-related fundraising. Remember, every step counts!

Cake sales & sweet treats

Let’s be honest, no one can resist a batch of freshly baked goods. Organise a cake sale at your work, your local school or community centre and raise funds for your charity. Whip up a variety of delectable treats like cookies, cakes, and muffins and encourage others to contribute their own homemade goodies too.

Set up an eye-catching display and let the sweet aromas do the talking. Don’t forget to place a donation jar alongside each treat for those who can’t resist the temptation!

Charity auctions and raffles

Bring out the competitive spirit and excitement by organising a charity auction or raffle. Approach local businesses and individuals for donations, such as vouchers, gift hampers, or unique experiences. Advertise the event within your community, making sure to highlight the cause you’re supporting. This is where social media comes in particularly handy! Get sharing on your social profiles and you’ll be sure to get some local interest.

Gather participants, set the bidding rules, and watch the generosity unfold. For those unable to attend, consider running an online auction or raffle, allowing a wider audience to get involved.

Dress-up days and themed events

Add a touch of fun and creativity by organising dress-up days or themed events. Choose a specific theme that resonates with your given charity and encourage participants to dress accordingly. It could be a superhero day, a fairytale-themed event, or even a fancy dress competition.

Organise games, activities, and small challenges to keep the atmosphere lively. Don’t forget to charge an entry fee, and consider providing prizes donated by local businesses or individuals. This is a sure way to fundraise a lot of money with your charity in mind.

Fundraising for a children’s charity like Seashell

Join us in transforming the lives of children and young individuals with complex needs by fundraising. Here at Seashell, we have earned a nationwide reputation for our exceptional support and education services for children and young people hailing from all corners of the UK.

Our students and residents, many of whom have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), rely on the dedicated and highly trained staff who provide round-the-clock, one-on-one care. Through generous individuals like yourselves who happily fundraise for us, we are able to ensure we maintain top-notch facilities, offer enriching life experiences, and sustain our unwavering support for children and young adults with learning difficulties.

Our Project Transformation is a prime example of something that couldn’t have been done without fundraising donations. This major redevelopment will allow us to continue to deliver our high standards of education and care but also extend our reach and provide that support into the future. The production of our new, modern Royal School Manchester with swimming, hydrotherapy and dining facilities, alongside many other features, wouldn’t have been possible without fundraising activities, donations, and sponsorship.

Here at Seashell, we recently held a community summer fair which is just one of our great summer fundraising ideas you can do too! Read on to discover some ways you can raise funds and truly make a difference.

Seashell shine community summer fair

When it comes to the best summer fundraising ideas, what better way to raise money than by throwing your own summer fair? Think homemade cakes and pastries, games for the little ones and stalls for food and activities – all with the heartwarming underlying cause of charity.

In June, we held the Seashell Shine Community Summer Fair where we celebrated our Bicentenary

Our event was an afternoon full of summer fun, celebration, and special guests like Evie from CBeebies and Alex James from XC Manchester!

To kick off our fundraiser our amazing CEO gave a wonderful speech, joined by one of our students, Mollie, who certainly got the festivities started the right way!

We kept our guests entertained with a massive variety of performances and speeches, offering the stage up to some of our brilliant students who performed their very own renditions of ABBA and a very, very rock and roll cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Don’t Worry About a Thing.’  We also had an equally electrifying choir performance from the Rock Choir and had the pleasure of watching an acoustic country, pop and blues set with the Tritonals!

With a carousel of activities also on offer, manned by none other than a bunch of Stormtroopers, our guests were certainly kept busy! We made sure that the fun didn’t stop with our selection of whirling fun fair rides and cycling activities. The kids also had the best time visiting the Worker Bee Market and Bicentenary Exhibition, before settling down for a quiet and well-needed bedtime story by Evie from CBeebies.

Whatever weather you get on the day, we’re sure the community will come out in full force to support your event, while raising lots of money for a good cause.

Hosting an event

Throughout our years, we’ve hosted many fundraising events, including our most recent summer fair. Now, we want to give you some inspiration on how you can host your own fundraising event!

Some of our most popular summer fundraising ideas

Summer auction

Why not add a dash of excitement and a sprinkle of competition to your summer fundraising? Hosting a summer auction can do just that! Begin by collecting items for auction, such as donated goods, services, or even experiences, like a day at a nearby spa or dinner at a swanky restaurant. Then, create buzz around your event to draw potential bidders in.

You can use social media, flyers, and word-of-mouth to get the crowds in. On the day, allow the tension to build, the paddles to rise, and watch as friendly competition fuels your fundraising efforts!

Sponsored walk, run or cycle

If you’re not the biggest fan of exercise, getting your heart pumping while supporting a charity is a surefire way to spur you on. Get your community engaged with a sponsored walk, run, or cycle. This isn’t just about fundraising; it’s about promoting health and unity.

Pick a scenic route, perhaps one that guides you through a local park or along a river, then invite participants to secure sponsorships for every kilometre covered.

During our Seashell Shine Community Summer Fair, a pupil completed their fundraising Shellebration Walk around the Cheshire countryside, and crossed the finish line at our fair! This amazing student raised a whopping £335 and inspired a crowd full of people at our Bicentrary fair.

If you’re putting on a sponsored cycle, why not take a look at our charity events page where we have cycling sessions all the family can get involved in?

Why not add some humour to the event with a fun dress code? And once it’s all over, you can celebrate the end of your journey with a community picnic.

Summer BBQ party

Nothing screams summer more than the smoky aroma of a BBQ party. You can transform this classic summer gathering into a fundraising event by selling tickets for an afternoon of yummy food, lively entertainment, and enjoyable company.

There are plenty of fundraising elements you can bring into the mix, such as a dessert auction or a small games corner – with all proceeds going to your cause. With the BBQ sizzling and the sun beating down, your summer BBQ party won’t only raise funds, but build stronger relationships amongst your community members – perfect!

Boat race

Imagine the gentle lapping of water against the hull, the excitement of the crowd, and the thrill of competition – all while raising money for a noble cause. A charity boat race can be a truly standout event of the summer.

We held our Charity Dragon Boat challenge earlier in the year which raised a whopping £52,915 (and counting!). Maybe it’s time for you to step into a boat, grab your paddle and traverse along the water while raising lots of money for your cause.

Check out our community fundraising page to see how you can get involved!

Car wash fundraiser

Are you looking to provide a much-needed service while raising funds? Then, a car wash fundraiser could be the answer. With the sun shining, cars will inevitably need a good scrub. Simply gather a team of willing volunteers, set up a station in a convenient location like a school car park and you’re good to go.

Promote your car wash widely through social media posts and local adverts. Just make sure you communicate the charitable nature of the event. After all, customers are far more likely to dig deep to get their cars washed if they know it’s for a good cause!

Summer is the perfect season to get some fresh air while raising vital funds for charity. Whether it’s putting on your own summer fair, hosting an auction, or throwing a BBQ party, any fundraising event you hold is sure to raise money for important charities.

You can make a donation to Seashell too where you’ll be helping to change the lives of the children and young people we care for.

Utilising your existing experience at Seashell is a great way to make a start in caring and charity work, and make a valued contribution to the charity.

Alongside developing your existing skills, you can begin to spend time supporting the children as part of a team that also supports you. It takes teamwork from all the staff at Seashell to provide every possible opportunity for the children and young adults here, and the team will help you to learn new skills and develop your existing ones. It could be the start of a career.

Support through sport

Activity is incredibly important for the health and wellbeing of the children and young adults at Seashell. Your business can help us with fundraising through payroll giving or gift-in-kind donations. You can also work with us to spread awareness through public relations initiatives, or join us on the frontline and provide direct support to the children on our campus. Working with us can be a team-building experience for your employees, and we can even help your business engage in remote fundraising and remote volunteering if you use a work-from-home or hybrid working scheme.

The people who work at Seashell are who make it a success. By working together and putting the needs of the children and young adults on campus first, we help develop their skills and each other’s. The staff of Seashell are highly valued and supported by our organisation, and we want your volunteering experience to be as rewarding for you as it is for the children.

It’s great to be part of such a dedicated and hardworking team”. We focus on the development of our team at Seashell, as well as the children and young adults who visit our facilities. Volunteering experience

Having some experience in care, particularly at Seashell, is a great way to get started within the charity sector. If you have already acted on your desire to work with the children and young adults we support, and have experienced life as a volunteer, you have begun to understand the challenges and rewards of working within a charity. This being said, you don’t need to have previous volunteering/caring experience to work with us; we’ll give you the tools you need to become a confident member of our charity.

Though there can be tough days, the good times far outnumber the challenges. It takes resilience as well as dedication to give the children and their families the support and assistance they need to navigate their challenges. We succeed together: the children, the team, and their families. Having experience in this type of environment will help you succeed too, and make your move into the charity sector much easier.

Know your skillset

There are many skills that we need people to have at Seashell. Knowing what you are good at and what you enjoy. How you can contribute to the charity will help you demonstrate your commitment to the cause and what you can offer the team and the children. Something as simple as time management is a valuable skill, and other work experience in IT, administration, or food preparation and service can all help us to deliver the high standard of care we provide to the children and young adults at our facilities. We support our children and young adults to access a wide range of work skills, life skills and independence activities. All types of skills in our staff are welcomed and nurtured at Seashell.. Even dog grooming!

Sales and marketing experience can help us with fundraising, while experience in the business world can help us forge new corporate partnerships with local, regional, and national corporations for extra avenues of fundraising, and to collaborate with them on PR events for outreach and awareness. Honesty, integrity, and compassion are all highly valued skills at Seashell and help us achieve our mission to support children with complex needs and their families, so they can live their lives to the fullest.

Choosing your role

There are many different types of jobs at a charity. At Seashell, we always need people who can help as frontline support and in direct contact with the children and young people. However, this is not the only way to contribute to a charity. We also need administrators, fundraisers, and people who can give our frontline workers the support that they need. Behind the scenes, it is always busy at a charity.

Identify your strengths and decide how your experience can best be applied at Seashell. You will develop more skills as you work here, and be given opportunities to use them, but your existing talents will help you find a role you are comfortable in so you can hit the ground running. Once you have some experience working at a charity, you can begin to follow your interests and passions in more specific jobs or areas of charity work. Here at Seashell, we invest in the people who work with us and help them find the role they were destined to play in our organisation.

In today’s fast-paced society where so much of our day-to-day revolves around our own lives and personal pursuits, volunteering for charity organisations offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on society. Not only does it allow us to give back to our communities, but it also has a range of benefits both for the individual and for the organisation. In this article, we look at the benefits of volunteering for organisations and the volunteering opportunities we have within our team here at Seashell.

The benefits of volunteering for charity organisations

There are a range of benefits when it comes to volunteering, and we want to shine a light on these benefits. Volunteering is a crucial factor that enables us to do what we do here at Seashell so let’s have a look at these in more detail.

Make a difference

Volunteering for charity organisations provides an avenue to contribute meaningfully to causes that matter. Whether it’s working with homeless shelters, and food banks, or helping to protect the environment, volunteers have the power to effect tangible change. By dedicating your time, skills, and resources, you can contribute towards positive transformations within your community.

Personal growth and development

Volunteering also offers remarkable personal benefits. It provides opportunities for you to develop new skills or enhance existing ones. Charity organisations like ours offer training and guidance, allowing you to gain valuable experience in areas such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. These newly acquired skills can boost self-confidence, broaden horizons, and even enhance employability prospects.

Strengthen your community

Charity organisations often serve as the backbone of vibrant communities, working tirelessly to support the vulnerable and address societal challenges. By volunteering, you can play an active role in strengthening your community. The act of volunteering evokes a sense of solidarity and belonging, creating bonds between diverse groups of people who come together for a common cause.

Enhanced well-being

Research has shown that volunteering has a positive impact on mental and physical well-being. Engaging in altruistic activities releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones, which can reduce stress and improve overall mood.

Volunteering also provides a sense of purpose and fulfilment, combating feelings of isolation or loneliness. By dedicating time to helping others, you might find that you experience increased happiness, satisfaction, and improved mental health.

Volunteering opportunities at Seashell

Here at Seashell, we have a range of volunteering opportunities. We offer a range of inclusive volunteering opportunities and a number of ways you can start volunteering with children and young people with learning disabilities.

Through the volunteering vacancies at Seashell, there are a range of ways you can help us. Support us in the classroom or with our events, general administration, and garden maintenance. We’re always looking for people to lend a hand at our community sports, & health and wellbeing sessions.

You’re welcome to join us during the day or evening, on a regular basis or as a one-off – whatever works for you! If you’re in the market for turning a volunteering opportunity into a paid role, this is always an option too. Lots of our staff members started out their journey with us as volunteers so the world really is your oyster!

Whatever your interests, skills, and experience, there’s a place for you here at Seashell. Donate your time and skills to help bring people of all abilities and disabilities together through sports. If sports aren’t really your thing, work with our students to practise important life skills and help them prepare for adult life.

Through our volunteering schemes, you can help make sure our services can reach the people who need them. If you would like experience in this sector before applying for jobs working with people with learning disabilities, volunteering is a great way to get started.

Corporate volunteering with Seashell

Not only do we offer individual volunteering opportunities but corporate support is also vital to us to ensure we continue to provide the children and young people we educate, care for and support with the very best facilities and life experiences.

If you’d like to get in touch with Seashell to find out more about our volunteering opportunities, ways to support us, or if you have an idea about an opportunity with us, contact us at 0161 610 0100 or email us at info@seashelltrust.org.uk.

The charity sector has become an increasingly present and dynamic job field in recent decades and today it offers a variety of job roles and opportunities for people across society. It is particularly popular for individuals who are passionate about helping others and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the rest of society.

Here at Seashell, we exemplify this commitment and all of the jobs and roles that make up our organisation aim to transform the lives of the children and young people in our care. We aim to improve the lives of those with complex learning disabilities and other development or communication needs. As part of this, we have an array of services available and of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the amazing people working alongside us.

This article will explore the diverse jobs within the charity secretary, and in particular, the types of roles available here at Seashell Trust.

Jobs in the charity sector

When you hear people talking about jobs in the charity sector then you may hear it being referred to as the ‘third sector’. This sector spans a range of disciplines but at the heart of all charity jobs is working towards a good cause and helping others. Charity and voluntary organisations all come in different shapes and sizes, from small and medium-sized employers to large international organisations that help people all over the world.

And of course, depending on the type of work a third-sector company does will depend on the roles available. From front-of-house to fundraising or even behind-the-scenes organising events, charities are always in need of a variety of skills to allow them to succeed.

Working with Seashell

But what does this mean for us at the Seashell Trust?

As we provide education and care through our specialist school and college, we take a collaborative approach with the roles in our organisation. As we help our children and young people prepare for a future, they build on valuable abilities such as communication, independence, and life skills. Here you can find out more about the Seashell Trust jobs available, what the role entails, and how it directly contributes towards our aim of helping children and young people with complex needs.

Teachers

The heart of what we do here at Seashell revolves around education. We aim to provide a safe and calm learning environment for our children and young people and couldn’t do this without our teachers and teaching assistants. Our education staff are often based at the Royal School Manchester which is our non-maintained special needs school that offers outstanding education and care for students from the age of 4 to 19.

In their role as teachers, they’re expected to provide tailored care and support for those with learning difficulties, autism and complex disabilities. This is an essential part of the role in order for our students to develop the skills and education they need to exceed in the future.

Support workers

Support workers play another huge role in the Seashell organisation and support our children and young adults in various areas of their time with us. Support workers are expected to work one-on-one to provide daily support and care for our young adults for their mobility, personal care, and communication needs, as well as their daily routine, learning abilities, and independent living skills. In particular, changing behaviours are consistently present in these roles, so it’s fair to say that every day is different!

Fundraiser

As a charity sector organisation, we rely heavily on donations and the work of our fundraisers to help us raise as much money as possible. Fundraisers help us to design, develop and implement strategies, from organising events to engaging with donors and seeking any sponsorships or grants that are available to support our children and young people.

To be a fundraiser at Seashell, you’ll need excellent communication skills, and networking abilities and be able to convey to others what our mission is and generate support for our cause. The fundraiser role is crucial in securing finances that are required to deliver services and programmes that change the lives of the children and young people who need it most.

Jobs at Seashell

We are always eager to welcome new members to the Seashell team. With a well-established history of providing thorough care to children and young adults with complex needs, joining our team will place you within an environment where both you and our students will thrive.

If you’d like to get in touch with our team here at Seashell to find out more about our employment opportunities, or if you have an idea about an opportunity with us, contact us at 0161 610 0100 or email us at info@seashelltrust.org.uk. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Charity is an essential aspect of society that plays a significant role in making the world a better place. It involves giving and sharing resources, time, skills, and other forms of support to people who are in need. Anyone can get involved in charity work, from individuals to large multinational companies and even small local businesses.

Charity can take various forms, including donations, volunteering, fundraising, and community service. In this article, we’ll explore why charity is important, the work of Seashell, and the benefits that it provides for both employees and the children and young people we support.

What does Seashell do?

Seashell is a national learning disability charity that supports children and young adults who have complex learning difficulties, additional communication needs, and disabilities across the UK. We provide care, support and education for children and young people aged from 2 to 25 years.

We provide this support in a range of settings:

As part of the residential care and support we provide, we also have a team of specialist staff that helps our residents with the complex needs they have.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the roles at Seashell.

The roles at Seashell

Here are some of the roles at Seashell that are funded as part of our charity. Each of which makes a huge difference to the children and young people we support.

  • Therapists
  • Residential support workers
  • Physiotherapists
  • Audiologists
  • SEN school teachers
  • Healthcare assistants
  • Volunteers.

All of these staff members and many more have the expertise required to provide specific and comprehensive residential care for every child that needs us. This is just one of the many reasons that charity work is important.

Our staff are highly skilled and experienced in caring for children and young people with disabilities. We employ a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, support staff, and medical professionals who work together to provide a holistic approach to care and education.

It’s rewarding for both employees and the children

Another great example of the importance of charity work is the development of new state-of-the-art buildings, such as the Moulding Foundation Building. Our campus in Cheadle Hulme is home to Royal School Manchester, Royal College Manchester and 17 residential home away from homes. The Moulding Foundation Building, home of RSM and other facilities, is proving enriching for the children and employees.

Thanks to the generous donations from Seashell supporters and their interest in Project Transformation (which aimed to develop a brand new school, college and campus), we’ve been able to expand the facilities we provide to our current students, residents and also those in the future.

As of February 2023, The Moulding Foundation Building is the new home for Seashell Royal School Manchester and offers some of the best facilities available. The facilities have been carefully designed with the special and complex needs of our students in mind. These include a swimming pool, hydrotherapy facilities, and dining halls that can be shared with students from the Royal College Manchester to improve social relationships.

Our charity work is also geared up towards other big plans for facilities, such as a wider cycle trail that goes around the entire Seashell campus. The plans also encompass a new college, reception and sports and administration centre. While some of these facilities have already been created, a lot more fundraising and charity work is needed to find the money needed to achieve the rest of our goals.

Our charity work benefits staff too

Not only does the development of the new campus, houses, and education settings improve the support and care our students and residents receive, but it also improves work environments for our hard-working staff. This ensures they have all the resources and equipment needed to improve the lives of those they are working with. Additionally, as part of Project Transformation, a dedicated hub will be available for staff to use to support their professional development and improve their workplace well-being.

Charity work is so important because it often bridges the gap between the government-supported schemes and initiatives that are needed by those who are most vulnerable in society and the level of support they require. Here at Seashell, our aim is to help children and young adults who have complex needs, and their families, to live their best lives.

If you’d like to get in touch with Seashell to find out more about our fundraising opportunities, or if you’d like to find out more about working with us, contact us at 0161 610 0100 or email us at info@seashelltrust.org.uk.

Donating money to charity can be incredibly rewarding and can make a significant difference to the lives of those in need. Whether you’re an individual looking to donate money for charity or a business, charity donations to a worthy cause can have many benefits – not only for the recipient, but also for the donor.

Here at Seashell, charity donations are a crucial source of funding for the services and support we offer. So we’ve put together this article to demonstrate how you make a difference when you donate money for charity.

Why donating money for charity is so important

On an individual basis, donating money to charity can provide a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Supporting a cause you care about and having a positive impact on your community and wider world can give you a real sense of purpose.

On a business level, donating to a charity has many benefits. It shows customers that the business is committed to making a positive impact on society. This in turn can improve brand image and reputation, leading to increased loyalty and trust amongst clients and customers.

Additionally, charitable donations can be a tax-deductible business expense, providing a financial incentive for donating.

How charity donations have helped Seashell

Here at Seashell, a charity that is dedicated to providing a creative, happy and secure environment for children and young people with complex needs and additional communication challenges from across the UK, charity donations ensure we provide the very best facilities and life experiences and continue supporting people with learning difficulties.

Through fundraising methods, such as charity event fundraising, we can continue to make a difference and continually improve our facilities.

Fundraising plays a crucial role in our charity’s regular operations. We rely on the ongoing support from our challenge events, grants, and corporate and community donations to exist.

At Seashell, fundraising has a tremendous impact on the lives of children and young people, enabling us to provide improved care to a larger number of individuals. We offer support to those with complex needs and their families, who are able to thrive in our positive and nurturing environment.

Our facilities provide opportunities for the children and young adults in our care to acquire essential skills while having fun. In addition, our residential homes offer a comfortable and hospitable environment for respite care. Fundraising is essential to maintain the operations of these facilities and to provide the necessary care and support to young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

How to get involved with our charity

If you are looking to become more involved with Seashell, there are several ways you can do so.

One option is to volunteer your time and skills to our cause. Often, we have to rely on volunteers to carry out our goals, so donating your time can be just as valuable as donating money. We have a range of volunteering opportunities and a number of ways you can start volunteering with children and young people with learning disabilities.

Another way to get involved with us is to attend or organise fundraising events. We hold many events such as galas, charity walks, and fun runs to raise funds to support our work. Attending these events not only provides financial support to our charity, but also raises awareness and creates a sense of community around the cause.

If you are a business owner, you can also get involved with us by sponsoring events or programmes. Here at Seashell, we have many corporate partnerships as this ensures we can continue to provide the very best facilities and life experiences to the children and young people we educate, care for and support at our special needs residential schools, Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester.

How we utilise our donations

Once you have donated money for charity, you might wonder how this money is spent. This is often a popular question we get.

Here at Seashell, the more funding we have, the more we are able to continually maintain and improve the facilities at Seashell. This means that new projects, such as our cycle track, can be developed to expand our ability to help develop our students’ core skills.

Using our charity donations to support our Project Transformation is another key way that fundraising helps make a difference to us. We are embarking upon the next phase of our transformation, a new home for Royal College Manchester, a dedicated learning, development, health and wellbeing hub for our staff, and inclusive sports and activity facilities for our community.

Supporting charities by donating your time and money is one of the most selfless things you can do. Not only is it incredibly rewarding, but it can also make a significant difference to the charity you are helping. However, it isn’t just individuals who can get behind a cause or charity.

Charity donations from companies can be a whole lot bigger and make an even more considerable impact. Charity donations from companies are not only beneficial to the cause being supported but also to the company itself.

Here at Seashell, we are dedicated to providing a creative, safe and enjoyable environment for children and young people with complex needs. Without charity donations from companies, we’d be unable to supply these crucial services. In this article, you’ll find out everything you need to know about corporate support, including how it can benefit everyone involved.

The benefits of charity donations from companies

We all know how important charities are and how much of a difference they can make in the lives of those in need. Therefore, many companies have decided to pick a charity of their choice to support and donate to. From multinational companies to small local businesses, all support from companies is much appreciated by charities, especially us here at Seashell.

When it comes to choosing a charity partner to support, you may want to find one that is close to your heart or meaningful to the people you work with. By finding a cause that you can all feel passionate about, you will find it a lot easier to get support from your colleagues and the company as a whole.

How can your company make a donation?

There are a number of ways that your company can get involved with charities. Whether that involves volunteering with them or donating money raised by fundraising activities.

Here are some of the ways we receive charity donations from companies at Seashell.

One option that is available to your company is to volunteer your skills, time, and expertise to our charity. We rely heavily on the kindness and goodwill of our volunteers who help us provide our services and achieve our goals. Donating your time is just as valuable to us as donating money, which is why we have a range of volunteering opportunities that you can choose from.

If your company is keen to support a frontline charity to care for and protect vulnerable young people, then you can start volunteering with children and young people with learning disabilities together.

Another option available to companies is the chance to get involved by sponsoring programmes or events that we host. In order to provide the children and young people we educate with the support and care they need at our residential schools, we have corporate partnerships to help give them the very best facilities.

Here at Seashell, we have wish lists of the equipment and items we need to improve the services we provide. So why not choose an item from our wish list, and then you will know exactly how you’ve helped our service users?

Our website has plenty of resources for you to find out more about our residential schools, Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester, and the support, education and care they provide.

How your workplace can get involved

If you’re a company looking to make charity donations and support our cause, then here are some of the main things you need to know.

Many companies do not realise that they can add corporate gift aid to their donations. This means that companies are entitled to tax relief on any charity donations that qualify. The donations made are paid without any deductions of income tax, and the donations are then deductible from the total profits of the company in the year the donation was made. This means that companies will not pay tax on that amount, and charities do not need to reclaim tax from HMRC after the donation has been made.

This isn’t the only benefit of charity donations from companies. Alongside the great feeling you will get from knowing that you and your company have made a significant difference to those we support at Seashell, you’ll also benefit in terms of team-building and PR opportunities.

Fundraising ideas for your company

  • Virtual challenges – number of steps/cycling challenges/quiz nights
  • Sponsored walks
  • The Three Peaks Challenge (this one is very popular!)
  • Organise a sweepstake
  • Host a bake-off, coffee morning, or cocktail-making class

However you decide to support a charitable cause or organisation, just remember that your time and money are both appreciated and play a huge role in helping the lives of others who need it most.
