The charity sector has become an increasingly present and dynamic job field in recent decades and today it offers a variety of job roles and opportunities for people across society. It is particularly popular for individuals who are passionate about helping others and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the rest of society.

Here at Seashell, we exemplify this commitment and all of the jobs and roles that make up our organisation aim to transform the lives of the children and young people in our care. We aim to improve the lives of those with complex learning disabilities and other development or communication needs. As part of this, we have an array of services available and of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the amazing people working alongside us.

This article will explore the diverse jobs within the charity secretary, and in particular, the types of roles available here at Seashell Trust.

Jobs in the charity sector

When you hear people talking about jobs in the charity sector then you may hear it being referred to as the ‘third sector’. This sector spans a range of disciplines but at the heart of all charity jobs is working towards a good cause and helping others. Charity and voluntary organisations all come in different shapes and sizes, from small and medium-sized employers to large international organisations that help people all over the world.

And of course, depending on the type of work a third-sector company does will depend on the roles available. From front-of-house to fundraising or even behind-the-scenes organising events, charities are always in need of a variety of skills to allow them to succeed.

Working with Seashell

But what does this mean for us at the Seashell Trust?

As we provide education and care through our specialist school and college, we take a collaborative approach with the roles in our organisation. As we help our children and young people prepare for a future, they build on valuable abilities such as communication, independence, and life skills. Here you can find out more about the Seashell Trust jobs available, what the role entails, and how it directly contributes towards our aim of helping children and young people with complex needs.

Teachers

The heart of what we do here at Seashell revolves around education. We aim to provide a safe and calm learning environment for our children and young people and couldn’t do this without our teachers and teaching assistants. Our education staff are often based at the Royal School Manchester which is our non-maintained special needs school that offers outstanding education and care for students from the age of 4 to 19.

In their role as teachers, they’re expected to provide tailored care and support for those with learning difficulties, autism and complex disabilities. This is an essential part of the role in order for our students to develop the skills and education they need to exceed in the future.

Support workers

Support workers play another huge role in the Seashell organisation and support our children and young adults in various areas of their time with us. Support workers are expected to work one-on-one to provide daily support and care for our young adults for their mobility, personal care, and communication needs, as well as their daily routine, learning abilities, and independent living skills. In particular, changing behaviours are consistently present in these roles, so it’s fair to say that every day is different!

Fundraiser

As a charity sector organisation, we rely heavily on donations and the work of our fundraisers to help us raise as much money as possible. Fundraisers help us to design, develop and implement strategies, from organising events to engaging with donors and seeking any sponsorships or grants that are available to support our children and young people.

To be a fundraiser at Seashell, you’ll need excellent communication skills, and networking abilities and be able to convey to others what our mission is and generate support for our cause. The fundraiser role is crucial in securing finances that are required to deliver services and programmes that change the lives of the children and young people who need it most.
