John was born in Crosby just five days before the end of the 1950’s. He originally joined the RSM Governing Body in 2016, and returned to the Board in 2023 after a short break brought about by work commitments. After 8 years in the Merseyside Police John has had a long career in hospitality, running multi-site restaurants, pubs, bars and hotels for Whitbread, Burtonwood and Marstons as a senior manager. For the past fifteen years John has worked for YHA, the charity running Youth Hostels in England & Wales, as a senior manager with responsibility as head of their £15million Food and Beverage business, serving also as Head of YHA Procurement and latterly as Head of Franchising.

Johns roles have taken him to live in all parts of the country including Dunstable, Finchampstead in Berkshire and Hertford. Returning to live on the Wirral in the early 1990’s John and his family moved twenty years ago to their current home in Graigfechan in the Clwyd Valley in North Wales. John and his wife Maria have three grown up children and four grandchildren and are lucky enough for their entire close family to live within forty minutes of their home.

John’s interests recently include trying to keep fit, but his lifelong commitment has been to music. He has played guitar and bass since childhood and now continues to expand his collection of guitars and other musical instruments which he uses to make a cacophony in his home recording studio.
