Martin joined the Board of Directors in July 2019 and is Chair of the Audit Committee. Martin is also a Royal School Manchester Governor.
After graduating from Nottingham University in 1984 with a first class degree in Chemistry, Martin joined Price Waterhouse (PW) in Manchester where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He spent two years on an international transfer with the Canadian firm, living and working in Toronto, before returning to Manchester in 1991. Martin was admitted as a Partner in 1996.
During his 21 years as a Partner in PW and from 1998, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Martin worked with a broad range of clients, from public listed companies to large and small privately owned businesses. Getting under the skin of the businesses, understanding the motivations of management and the key drivers and issues was absolutely essential if he was to add value in his role and something that he relished.
Martin also enjoyed a number of leadership roles as a Partner. Martin was Assurance People Partner for the North Region for many years and also led the North West Assurance Practice for four years until 2012 when he became Office Senior Partner to the Liverpool office until his retirement from the firm in 2017.
Martin is a Trustee of Just Helping, a national charity which raises funds for, primarily, hospices through a burgeoning number of Christmas Tree collections. This strong growth brings real challenges, particularly with a largely volunteer workforce. Their local collection supports St Ann’s Hospice.
As a Bramhall, now Woodford, resident for over 30 years, Martin have been aware of the amazing support Seashell provides for some time. Martin is genuinely excited by the opportunity to work with the Trust to help deliver its transformational plans over the next five years and beyond.
